sQuba Submarine Car
February 16, 2008
Created by Frank Rinderknecht, Founder and CEO of Swiss design company Rinspeed, the sQuba car is The world’s first submersible car or submarine car. Based on the Lotus Elise, the sQuba convertible submarine car is every James Bond fanatic’s dream come true. Built with three electric motors, one for driving on land and the other two used for propelling the car underwater, and powered by rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries, the sQuba is a zero emission car that produces no exhaust emissions and uses energy saving LED lighting technology. Using an innovative salt-water resistant interior, the sQuba features genuine mother-of-pearl trim and diamond-plated non-slip inlays from KGS Diamond, as well as a high-tech VDO instrument panel and controls that allow controlling of all vehicle functions while submerged.
Watertight and pressure resistant the sQuba’s Underwater maneuverability is powered by two Seabob jet drives that “breathe” through rotating louvers mounted on the car’s front fenders. The Rimspeed sQuba’s top speed is 75mph on land, 4mph on water and 2mph below the surface. Costing roughly $1.5 million to build, the sQuba will be unveiled at next month’s Geneva Motor Show but will never enter production. “We don’t plan to build it, even in a limited capacity,” says Rinderknecht. “But if someone wants to take up the project that would be great”. Personally I would love to take a ride in this thing. Hopefully Richard Branson will take on the project and produce it for public consumption, or at least sell under-sea rides.

This is one of the most amazing car ever built! Please email it to the two addresses above…thank you!
